WE CARE - NURTURE - PROTECT

Our Principles & Values

Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Biosphere

Our Principles & Values

The Isle of Wight is internationally recognised for its diversity of landscape, rare wildlife and unique climate. In 2019 the Island became a UNESCO Biosphere, awarded by the United Nations, reflecting “a unique area of environmental significance in which communities strive to work hand in hand, innovatively and responsibly to protect and support the local environment and the world we all live in.”.

Duxmore Botanics is based on our farm, on the Isle of Wight. We live and work in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we take care to ensure we respect the land and the wildlife that we share it with - there is room for us all.

Our environment inspires us daily, from the beauty of the diverse landscape to the sights and sounds of nature. It is a peaceful location, which is good for the soul. The sound of the cuckoo calling, bird song at dusk and dawn, the partridge scurrying across the fields, squirrels around the hazel trees, the fox pack in the distant woodland and the buzzards perched on fence posts. Clear starry skies, with uninterrupted light, beautiful skies at sunrise and the golden glow across the valley at sunset.

We are passionate about the land and do what we can to care for it. We invest in new trees and hedging plants each year, all of a native species, to provide shelter for the livestock on our farm, and areas for nesting birds too. We are also working on a natural corridor for our native red squirrels, to enable them to move safely across our valley – planting trees to connect the areas between us and our neighbouring woodlands. This will of course take time to establish, but in the 4 years since I first planted them and cleared the area, we have seen new wildflowers grow, the trees become more established and we watch the birds, butterflies and dragonfly enjoy this area too.

We believe in doing good from the start, not off-setting the bad with the good. We care about what we put on our skin, as much as we care for what will end up in our water systems and landfill. We only use natural home-care products at home, some often home-made, to both clean and fragrance our home.

I have always loved fragrances from nature, developing 'perfumes' as a young girl. I love to create fragrances that let you escape to the great outdoors, that bring you moments of calm, or an energising boost - all in the comfort of your home. As a brand we only work with suppliers from a trusted source, to ensure the ingredients are of the highest quality, are harvested and sourced responsibly, and that the people that work the land are looked after too.

We are not perfect, and are always on the look-out for ways to improve, but we are committed to limiting our environmental impact in all that we do.
